Mission
Statement:
"A network of individuals, groups and organisations who, through
the exchange of ideas, resources and energy are dedicated to
helping the bereaved and the dying".
Manchester Area Bereavement Forum, (MABF) was formed in 1993.
It is composed of a group of people working professionally and
in the voluntary sector with the bereaved and those suffering
loss.
Membership is open to anyone working with loss and bereavement
issues, or anyone requiring support, advice or information.
Registration will entitle members/groups to receive reports,
literature and information regarding study/training days and
annual conference.
Members may be asked to facilitate and help with referrals.
The Forum meets six times a year and holds an Annual General
Meeting that includes a business section, a report and financial
statement.
Funds are used to cover the administration costs and to provide
information and resources, literature and any other purpose
agreed by the management committee.
M.A.B.F. is a member of ADEC (Association of Death Education
and Counselling), and also the Bereavement Research Forum.

Why do we need bereavement support?
Grieving takes place after any circumstantial loss but impacts
most after the death of someone close to us: A considerable
number of people experience the death of someone close to them
at some time in their life.
Helping families and friends during the process of bereavement
is a complex process which can involve many groups of health
care professionals.
Appropriate ways to deal with issues associated with communication
and support in death, dying and bereavement continue to influence
the organisations practice.
"The death of a loved one is a highly emotional event that has
exactly 100% probability of happening, yet we block it from
our consciousness. We have trouble making sense out of a life
that is filled with death. Our greatest struggle as a human
being is to make sense out of the senseless, to create order
out of chaos." (J. D. Morgan, 2000).
Each of us creates meaning because of the support that we receive
from others. For M.A.B.F., our ethical mandate is to be present
to others. We are unable to give them answers, but we can be
with them as they struggle for their own answers.
